After working with dozens of clients I realized that there was a fundamental flaw in the way people are approaching LinkedIn:
As small business owners, much of what we need to do, including marketing, is outside our zone of genius. We dread it, thinking it means shining a spotlight on ourselves and pushing people to buy.
Because marketing and sales are unavoidable, it is tempting to seek solutions from the “experts”, which often leaves us stuck with formulas and funnels that don't "feel right".
The biggest mistake entrepreneurs make is to see LinkedIn as just an outlet for content. Posting is just an item on a to-do list. But you need a different kind of strategy to get the most out of LinkedIn. It’s less about the content; it's about the relationships you build. It’s this shift in your approach that is the key.
The good news is that it’s about you showing up as a human. To make LinkedIn work for you, bring yourself as a whole person, and passionately speak about your vision as you would to a friend, and then organically bring people into the conversation, gradually building a movement around your mission.
Spewing out content for the sake of visibility and consistency, without investing in making genuine human connections is exhausting, ineffective, and leads to burn out.
I understood this because my clients who did well on LinkedIn were able to make this shift. It also lights me up when it happens so I’ve narrowed down my ideal target audience to mission-driven entrepreneurs.
Once they lean into their big vision and make sharing their message the central focus, rather than selling their offer, they begin to see the magic of LinkedIn. My 20-year Love Affair With LinkedIn
Hi, I'm Sophie Lechner, LinkedIn coach for mission-driven entrepreneurs who hate marketing.
Even though I’ve been on LinkedIn since it launched 20 years ago, it wasn’t until March of 2020 when I fully realized how much LinkedIn is a black hole for many small business owners.
